We are not where we want to be yet. But we are moving; intentionally, honestly, one small decision at a time.

Everyone in fashion talks about sustainability. We want to talk about something more honest than that. We are a small brand, designed in Brisbane, built by one person with a deep belief that the way we make and consume clothing needs to change. We are not a certified sustainable brand. We do not claim perfection. What we do claim is this: every decision we make; about fabric, volume, packaging, production; is made with the planet in the room.

We believe change begins in your community. In your inner circle. In the small, consistent choices that quietly accumulate into something larger than themselves. That is the kind of brand we are committed to being. We are continuously working on it. And we will always tell you where we stand.

3F FRAMEWORK

The 3F Framework — how we design at Ileana

At Ileana, every piece is evaluated against three principles before it goes into production.

Fit. A piece that fits well is a piece that gets worn. We invest heavily in the fit process; typically three to four samples per style; because we believe the most sustainable garment is one that never gets pushed to the back of a wardrobe.

Fabric. Every fabric we work with is chosen for how it feels, how it wears, and what it is made from. We prioritise natural, breathable fibres; linen, silk, cotton, TENCEL™ that are kind to skin and kinder to the earth.

Finish. The inside of a garment is where quality is either present or absent. We finish our pieces with French seams, double-neatened hems, and fully-lined constructions wherever possible; because longevity is built from the inside out.

SLOW & TIMELESS FASHION

Slow fashion is not a marketing term for us. It is how we operate. We release one to two collections a year, in limited quantities. Not because we are small; but because we believe in designing pieces that deserve to exist, and producing only as many as are genuinely needed. Each piece is designed to be transeasonal; to move from summer to autumn, from morning to evening, from Brisbane to wherever you are going next. We do not design for a single occasion or a single season. We design for the long version of your life. We also design slowly. From the first sketch in Brisbane to the final fitting on a real woman in our circle, every piece takes time. We think that time is part of what makes it worth owning. Slow consumption is something we ask of our customers, too; not as a lecture, but as an invitation. Buy less. Choose well. Wear it often. That is the most sustainable act any of us can make.

What we make from, and why it matters

The fabric is the beginning of everything. Before a silhouette, before a colour, before a pattern; there is the material. And the material is a choice. At Ileana, we work with natural fibres: linen, silk, cotton, TENCEL™ & hemp. These are not chosen for their eco-credentials alone; they are chosen because they feel extraordinary against skin, they breathe, they move, and they age with grace rather than deteriorating. They are also biodegradable. When a piece has lived its full life, it returns to the earth without leaving a trace. We are always looking further. Our fabric sourcing is ongoing; we continue to research and adopt materials that allow us to make beautiful clothing with less impact. We will tell you when things change, and what they change to.

We believe that change begins close to home. In the choices made in a Brisbane studio. In a fabric sourced from an artisan in Sri Lanka. In a seam finished properly because someone will one day notice. In a customer who buys one piece instead of five and wears it until it is soft with memory. None of this is enough on its own. Together, it becomes something.
